The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) report detailed the investigation into Child Sexual Abuse in England & Wales over a period of decades and proposed vital recommendations to prevent future abuse.
Following the inquiry, a series of legacy benches were installed at locations across England and Wales. These benches provide a reflective space and commemorate the experiences of thousands of victims and survivors of child sexual abuse.
Three of the benches have been installed in Guildford. RASASC CEO Daisy Anderson said:
“It’s fantastic to have three of the legacy benches here in Guildford as a visual tribute to all the survivors. The benches serve to commemorate all those who have been affected and whose contributions to the Inquiry have been so valuable. Now, we must continue these conversations about child sexual abuse and keep a continued focus on the ongoing scale of the problem.”
The report put forward 20 recommendations to help tackle child sexual abuse in England and Wales, however, to date, none of the recommendations have been adopted in full.
Supporters and campaigners will be meeting on 20 October, the anniversary of the report’s publication at the legacy bench on Victoria Embankment, London, to raise awareness of the need to adopt the report's recommendations to ensure the safety and protection of child sexual abuse survivors.
