Meet our London Landmarks team!

We have a team of seven plucky runners taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon on 2 April. Here you can meet the team and find out a little more about them

Children’s sports coach Paris is both nervous and excited to run her first half marathon, having never done anything like this before. Until a few years ago she’d never even run a 5k!

She says: “I’m not putting too much pressure on myself, I’m just putting one foot in front of the other and simply running to spread awareness about the amazing work you do.

“Someone I love dearly was sexually abused as a child and help or support was unknown of then. The trauma has impacted their everyday life even to this day. I can’t turn back time, but I can do what I can now. It needs to be spoken about more and taken far more seriously, so I’m running to aid this change in our society and support the amazing work that RASASC provide.”

Anna has previously run a half marathon four years ago, and has joined a running club as part of her training. She says:

“I have been doing a lot of running with my lovely housemate who is training for the London Marathon as well as joining the Friday Run Club – billed as "possibly South London's slowest run club". I’ve also bought myself some extra speedy trainers!

“I hope the sun shines on the day, especially for my Sunday roast and pint after! I wanted to raise awareness and contribute to this small but really important charity as I think RASASC provide incredible support and services for people who have been affected by rape or sexual abuse locally.”

Jess is another of our runners taking on her first ever half marathon, having only ever run 5k before.

She said: ”To train I’ve been focussing on regular long runs and shorter 5k speed runs three times a week. I’m looking forward to that finish line feeling, and feeling like I’ve accomplished a big milestone moment whilst also raising awareness for a very important charity that I believe should have better visibility and support.

"I truly believe in the work RASASC do, & advocating for a charity like RASASC is something I’m really proud of.”

Paige, a teaching assistant at a SEN school was inspired by her sister who ran the London Landmarks Half Marathon last year.

She says: “I’ve never done anything like this before, but it was amazing to see what my sister achieved last year, so I wanted to have a go and see what how well I could do.

"I'm running with a friend and we're following a half marathon runner beginners guide. It’s amazing to see how far we have come from running less than 1k to completing 10k runs!

"Training is challenging but definitely worth it. On the day I just want to enjoy it. I can't wait to experience it all and take in the atmosphere. I am looking forward to celebrating after and really being able to see just how far I have come.”

Student union Sabbatical Officer Nathalie is a returning RASASC runner, having taken on The Big Half for RASASC in 2022.

She said” Last September I raced in the Big Half for RASASC Guildford, It was an incredible experience. Training has been a lot tougher this time. I've been unlucky with sickness and injury, I had tendonitis around my meniscus which took 10 weeks to fully resolve, and I also had COVID. Thankfully I managed to bounce back pretty quickly, but I'm a bit slower now than I was last September, and this time I’m just aiming to just get across the finish line! I'm also going to a friend's birthday later that day, so I’m hoping to show up to it with a medal around my neck!

“I’m supporting RASASC because it’s a cause which is near and dear to my heart. I myself am a survivor, and I have found great comfort and meaning in doing everything in my power to help others who went through what I did, and prevent it from happening to more people. Raising money for RASASC is one way of doing this.”
